Communications & Engagement Manager
Alexandra Smith is the Communications & Engagement Manager at 128 Business Council. In this role she manages communications activities on behalf of the Council and engages in community relations and member relations activities. In these functions, she seeks to distribute appropriate information to members and other constituents, represent the Council and the interests of its members, and identify ways to best serve members.
Alex was previously Director of Communications and Media Relations at Wheelock College, where she wrote college communications on behalf of the President’s Office, served as the college media spokesperson, and stewarded strategic communications involving several constituent groups and stakeholders as Wheelock underwent a merger.
She has also worked for another local transportation management association, the Seaport TMA in Boston. Alex managed member communications for Seaport TMA’s 40+ member companies and 20,000+ daily commuters including event, transportation, and construction advisories during a time in which the South Boston Waterfront was being rapidly developed. She also engaged in interagency transportation projects including the South Boston Waterfront Sustainable Transportation Plan, and managed marketing and administration of several transportation demand management (TDM) programs. While at the Seaport TMA, Alex received the 2015 Emerging Leader Award from the Association for Commuter Transportation Patriot Chapter.
Alex also worked in marketing communications at the Tufts University Africana Center, and has done work including nonprofit development, online journalism, and web content.
She received a master’s degree in communication management from Emerson College, and a bachelor of arts in communication arts and journalism from Framingham State University. Alex is a member of Young Professionals in Transportation, and previously served on the Board of Directors for its Boston Chapter.
