As the new year approaches, we want to remind riders and member companies alike about a small but important change to Qualified Transportation Fringe Benefits, more commonly known as Commuter Benefits.

For tax year 2026, the IRS has set the monthly limit at $340 per month—an increase of $15 from 2025. This update is part of the broader 2026 inflation adjustments enacted under the federal “One, Big, Beautiful Bill.” Read more about this and other IRS tax inflation adjustments here.

What are Commuter Benefits?

Qualified Transportation Fringe Benefits are employer-provided commuter benefits that allow employees to use pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible commuting expenses. This lowers the employee’s taxable income. These benefits do not count as gross income for federal income tax, Social Security, or Medicare (FICA) taxes.
