On September 23, 2024, MassCommute’s Car Free Day drew 1,560 car-free commuters who together avoided 28,140 miles of driving, saved 1,125.60 gallons of fuel, and cut 11.63 tons of greenhouse gases—which amounted to an estimated $16,601.42 in cost savings.

The most-used green modes were public transit (38%), telework (29%), bike (14%), shuttle (9%), carpool/vanpool (6%), and walk (4%).

128 Business Council is one of 16 Commonwealth-based Transportation Management Associations (TMAs) who worked together to make this year’s International Car-Free Day happen in Massachusetts.

While most participants across the state opted to switch from single-occupancy vehicle to public transit, the majority of 128BC participants chose to commute by shuttle.
