128BC Receives Two State Grants to Support Shuttle Service Expansion
Last week, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s (MassDOT) Rail and Transit Division awarded $3 million in funding through its second annual TMA Grant Program, supporting 19 projects designed to reduce single-occupancy vehicle trips, lower greenhouse gas emissions, facilitate mode shift, and expand mobility. Grants were awarded to Transportation Management Associations (TMAs) across the Commonwealth.
For the second year in a row, 128 Business Council was among the most highly awarded TMAs in the state, receiving over $360,000 in total funding. This strong vote of confidence supports both the expansion of the Needham Shuttle and the preservation of the Waltham Shuttle—two key routes on The Grid’s regional network.
The grants will fund increased service levels, as well as strategic outreach and efforts to increase private-sector investment in both cooperative shuttle routes. By strengthening the long-term viability of these services, 128BC can continue helping member companies and communities reduce congestion, expand access, and connect commuters to transit.
